Surrey Implant Dentist
Dr Andrew Murphy graduated from Manchester University in 1990. He elected to undertake a further year of education and enrolled in the vocational training scheme involving a significant amount of surgical dentistry. Dr Murphy then practised in a dental clinic near Manchester before moving South to live and work in Kingston-upon-Thames.
In July 1996, Andrew became partner and principal dentist of the Clocktower Dental Clinic, Epsom, Surrey, where he continues to practice today. This Clinic has been in existence since circa 1935 and some patients continue to attend after more than fifty years. The scope of his clinical treatment involves dental implantology and bone augmentation, cosmetics including veneers, resin bonding, Invisalign, smile makeovers, and restorative and reconstructive dentistry.
Dr Murphy has undertaken significant amounts of postgraduate education since qualification and continues to do so. Dentistry constantly evolves and it is important to remain abreast of improvements in ideology, prevention, and techniques of treatment. His postgraduate education includes the certificate in restorative dentistry and a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology (2001-2) from the world-renowned Eastman Dental institute in London. Andrew also won the Nobel Biocare prize for dental implantology.
Having held positions at St George’s hospital in London and Kingston hospital in Surrey, Andrew has lectured on various subjects including implantology, treatment planning, material choice and usage, and other aspects of modern dentistry. He has mentored other dentists in implantology. Andrew favours minimally-invasive dentistry and to try and achieve the desired goal of the patient in the most simple way possible. This is often relevant when treating people in the media or whose lifestyle involves significant travel such that time is of the essence.
A consultation with Andrew might start with one of the following questions; “What do you want to achieve during your visit today or, if you could wave a magic wand, what do you want to change with your teeth?” The approach is based around listening carefully to the needs and wants of the patient and then formulating a treatment plan accordingly, from recementing a crown to full mouth implant restoration. Variables such as time, budget, current dental health, previous dental history, appearance, etc. are all taken into account and a plan finalised and agreed before commencing.
Technology, such as scanning in 3D, can help us achieve a more streamlined, better, and predictable outcome. It enables us to use dental laboratories around the world to create beautiful dentistry.
